The 2015 Goodreads Choice Awards Starts!

GoodreadsChoice2015November marks the time for the annual Goodreads Choice Awards, which means it’s time to review your books and vote for your favourites 2015 reads.

With Goodreads being a popular research tool for many readers looking for their next reads, it is important that noteworthy reads get recognized. There are so many books and so little time; therefore, don’t waste your time reading crap! Help others to navigate through the book abyss by making sure those well-written stories, lovable characters, and fantastic authors get noticed and on more people’s bookshelves.

Goodreads is the world’s largest site collection of book reviews & recommendations. Goodreads provides an online community for book lovers to congregate: share book recommendations, find reviews, log your personal reading goals & accomplishments, and connect with people with similar reading interests. Since Goodreads’ inception in January 2007, it now is the home to 40 million members, 1.1 billion books and 43 million reviews. Goodreads is also available as an app for your smartphones — making it easier to get enthusiastic about reading and discover new books.

What is the Goodreads Choice Awards?

The 2015 Goodreads Choice Awards have three rounds of voting open to all registered Goodreads members. Winners will be announced December 1, 2015. Books published in the United States in English, including works in translation and other significant rereleases, between November 16, 2014, and November 15, 2015, are eligible for the 2015 Goodreads Choice Awards. Books published between November 16, 2015, and December 31, 2015, will be eligible for the 2016 awards.

Goodreads analyzes statistics from the millions of books added, rated, and reviewed on Goodreads to nominate 15 books in each category. For the Opening Round official nominees that Goodreads compiled is required to have an average rating of 3.50 or higher.

What if your favourite book is not shown? This is why the Opening Round is so important! Goodreads members can add to the nominations by writing in their own favourite books published during the dates mentioned above.

After the Opening Round is complete, Goodreads then analyzes the statistics from the hundreds of millions of books added, rated, and reviewed to select 15 worthy nominees in each of its 20 categories (e.g. Fiction, Fantasy, Young Adult, Graphic Novels & Comics, Science Fiction, etc.). These 300 books then get lot of attention on Goodreads community in the future through the icon tag label saying it was a top pick; recommends the selection to those who have not read it but have similar reading tastes; and some bookstores also display the Goodreads Choice award books (look for the sticker on the front cover). Let’s be smart and pick books worth celebrating and sharing.

You have three chances to vote:

  • Opening Round (November 3 – 8)
    Voting opens to 15 official nominees, and write-in votes can be placed for any eligible book
  • Semi-finals (November 10 – 15)
    The top five write-in votes in each of the categories become official nominees. Additional write-ins no longer accepted.
  • Finals (November 17 – 23)
    The field narrows to the top 10 books in each category, and members have one last chance to vote!
